Certified, registered and Level 1 Doulas - What is the difference?
Registered – Certified Doulas – Listed In Our Directory
These Doulas are Certified Doulas and have registered with Mama Bamba for 2025 – (Updated in April each year) Indicating that they are active and available for birth support. This also gives Doulas access to our online resource center for Doulas. These Doulas can register with medical aids and have access to hospitals as registered certified Doulas.
Registered Level 1 Doulas – Listed In Our Directory
These are doulas who are working towards certification but have meet all the foundational requirements. At Mama Bamba we feel very confident that, after attending the training days as well as the mentorship day/s with one of our mentors- which forms the foundation of our training, our doulas are more than capable of supporting women.
Level 1 certificate which will allow our level 1 doulas into hospital unsupervised will be rewarded after completion of:
- in-person / online trainings,
- breastfeeding course
- reading of required books (first 5 listed) not including optional books
- submission of assignments -online students
- mentorship day.
Certified Doulas – Not Listed in the Directory
Certified Mama Bamba Doulas have completed all the above and their birth support requirements and will be issued with a certificate.
Not all certified Doulas end up as practicing Doulas and have a need to pay registration fee’s and be listed on the site and with medical aids. If you are working with such a Doula and would like to confirm their qualifications, pleas contact us
